The Dark Caribbean West Marches Campaign

Coming Fall 2023.

What is this?

The Dark Caribbean West Marches is an ongoing campaign played by the Limithron Patrons on the Limithron Discord Server and using Legend Keeper.

The Dark Caribbean:

  • A grimdark campaign setting in the early 18th century Caribbean Sea. It’s on Earth, just not ours.

  • Magic is raw, powerful, dark, dangerous, and thwarted by cold iron.

  • Combat can be deadly

  • Survivors are legendary

  • Exploration is rewarding

  • Ships are vehicles, homebases, and characters

  • The world looks beautiful, but is a dark and terrible place

West Marches is a style of play:

  • There's no regular scheduled time.

  • There's no fixed group of players; players can drop in and out each session, there are multiple DMs, and DMs can also be players.

  • The players determine the direction of the game.

  • The DMs set out potential challenges and the players choose which ones to follow.

  • There's no overarching storyline; the game is about exploration, discovery, and treasure.

  • Similar to “Legacy” board games, player choices can permanently affect the world.

  • Learn more here on Matt Coville’s YouTube Channel and in this blog.

Dark Caribbean West Marches:

  • Games are organized on the Limithron Discord Server.

  • GM will be recruited closer to the campaign.

  • Any Limithron Patrons can play as many games as they want.

  • Can be played on Foundry, on Roll20, or in person.

  • Information about the world (maps, plot lines, NPCs, session reports, etc) is tracked in Legend Keeper.

Can be played in either D&D 5th Edition or PIRATE BORG.

    • 5e Characters must start at level 1 but can level up and play in other games (Adventures League style).

    • PIRATE BORG characters are typically rolled randomly, but can and should be used again if they survive!
